For #GivingTuesday today, could you give a sewing machine or a set of hairdressing tools to a disabled young person, so they can start work?
We would like to give sewing machines to 17 trainee tailors and and hairdressing equipment to 12 students who are about to graduate from the Rwenzori Special Needs Foundation's (RSNF) vocational training school in Fort Portal, Uganda.
RSNF, which teaches small-scale business enterprise management skills as part of its vocational courses, has found that its students have much better chances of starting work and running successful businesses if they are given professional equipment. A sewing machine costs £83 and hairdressing equipment costs £48. Each student contributes 10% towards the cost, which makes the items affordable, whilst giving the students a sense of ownership. The students' contribution pays for transporting the equipment. Give someone a career and livelihood for #GivingTuesday by donating at bit.ly/ACTXmas21 and make a lasting impact.
